Characters
Each playable larrikin has different stats, a starting weapon and a unique bonus. Damage × multiplies all your weapon damage; Speed is movement; Stamina fuels sprinting & jumping. The Ring-in's table shows base stats: your chosen knack changes starting health, speed or stamina and supplies its own growth bonus.
Hear your crew in 0.10.9
Each of the eleven characters has a distinct Australian voice matched to their identity. There are 1,430 lines: ten variations for each of thirteen situations. Hear reactions to supplies, salvage, pub upgrades, big pokie wins, low health, low stamina, landmark visits, building, repairs, augment finds and revives. A character exploring away from the pub can call for a return when it comes under attack.
The opening introduces your selected character, or each member of the multiplayer crew in turn, before the refreshed cinematic. During a defence, character lines reach mates within 30 metres in the same indoor or outdoor space; nearby speakers take turns.
In Settings → Audio → Character dialogue, choose Character voices, Dialogue volume and Dialogue subtitles independently. These settings are separate from live microphone chat in Settings → Voice. Low-stamina deliveries are breathless, and subtitles appear in a compact caption panel.
Earlier model updates: 0.10.7 replaced all eleven regulars' presentation with their approved character models and original animation clips. Bob has authored rifle carry, aim and fire poses; fishing hand placement fits the new bodies. Character identities, starting kits and abilities are preserved. All six mates also receive their new models and movement. In 0.10.7a, all eleven characters keep their stride phase when switching between walking and running, and Blue Heeler's follow and fetch movement animation recovers correctly when replaced or paused. See the release notes for the model update and hotfix.
0.10.10 refreshes all eleven playable character models, plus the Cockatoo and Kookaburra mates. Bob has refitted rifle mounts, and pub characters use a more relaxed standing pose. Existing ground-mate models remain in use. Mirrabooka's Fair Go decline bonus now uses your own mate in multiplayer, with its existing coefficients unchanged. Wombat companion rewards cannot summon bosses; manual pond fishing still can.
Tradie Shaz
Start with +10% XP gain. Each level adds another 1.5% XP and 2% pickup reach; the character's pickup bonus stops at double reach.
The Punter
In the run's VIP Lounge, gain a 20% chance to roll a complete alternate spin and keep the better currency return. This character bonus does not apply to menu spins. Gain 0.1 extra attacks per level; only whole accumulated attacks apply.
Bob
Gain 20 armour every level. Starts with high health and armour, but moves slowly, deals 10% less damage and has shorter pickup reach.
Nullarbor Swift
Gain 15 movement speed every level and regenerate stamina twice as fast. A large stamina pool supports frequent sprinting, but starting health is low.
Firey
Leave a burning trail that gains 4% damage and 0.025 seconds of lifetime per level. Ignore heatwave penalties and cyclone wind.
Bottle-O Bandit
Positive beer effects gain 5% duration per level, so buffs last longer as you grow. Negative beer effects last only a quarter of their normal duration.
The Fisher
Start with 200 Fair Go and gain 2 per level. Fish bite twice as fast; catches heal 5 HP. Vegemite costs up to 10 HP instead of healing.
Magpie Mick
Your Magpie Flock gains 3% damage every level, making the flock stronger as you grow. Enemy magpies cannot hurt you.
Steve
Start with +25% damage and gain critical chance each level. Consumables drop 10% more often. Crocs deal 75% less damage to you; roos deal triple.
The Snake Charmer
Start with +40% weapon damage. Attack size grows by 5% per level; once size reaches its limit, further size bonuses become extra damage.
The Ring-in
Choose a starter weapon and one knack that grows as you level. Each knack changes your starting stats and grants its listed growth bonus, without the original character's other abilities.
Damage × above 1.00 is a straight damage buff; below 1.00 is a penalty (Bob the Tank trades damage for bulk). Characters have different level-up growth traits. Some stats have limits: Shaz's character pickup bonus stops at double reach, and excess attack size becomes Wide Load damage after the size cap. Read each ability above; the Ring-in receives the chosen knack's growth, not the original character's other abilities.
